ANIMAL MANURE. IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT.
- Animal farms, especially pig and cattle farms, generate significant amounts of manure. A cow can produce approximately 28 m³ of manure annually, while a pig approximately 2.5 m³ (a sow even several times more).
-
Manure creates a series of problems on the farm and has a strong impact on the environment:
- Manure means feces, urine, bedding (e.g. straw), so it is a main source of pathogens, unpleasant odors.
- Manure has a high phosphorus (P), potassium (K) and nitrogen (N) load, but this can only be made available to plants in certain concentrations and when the manure has a certain condition.
- The lack of homogenization of manure leads to its sedimentation in canals, basins or lagoons, so that the useful available volume is affected and its evacuation involves the liquid layer.
- Failure to properly evacuate manure to the final lagoon creates and maintains a dangerous environment for humans and animals on the farm.
- Spreading unseparated manure on the field, without waiting for the necessary period for sanitation, affects the groundwater, soil fertility, generates strong odors and involves higher transport and management costs.

Complete solutions for manure management
Our portfolio of equipment and solutions for manure management in pig and cow farms includes equipment that, when combined, lead to a circular economy:
- Manure agitators – the modern solution to homogenize (mix) the 3 layers in which manure settles, for subsequent pumping and separation. We supply triple helix agitators, with powers ranging from 4 to 18 kW, fully equipped, including platforms, electrically or hydraulically driven models (e.g. by tractor).
- Manure separators – high-performance equipment that separates the liquid fraction from the solid. Thus, the solid component can subsequently be monetized, used as fertilizer, compost or even subjected to a sanitation process to be used as bedding (in cow farms). The separated liquid component is much more environmentally friendly, and can be used in fertilizing and irrigation. Kompack systems allow the separation of manure in larger quantities with lower energy consumption.
- Manure pumps – pumps with or without chopper, submersible or floating, with capacities suitable for transporting manure to lagoons, separators or for other purposes.
SEGALES
